Prof. Sudharman K. Jayaweera was recently appointed as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transaction on Vehicular Technology. IEEE TVT is the journal of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (IEEE-VTS) that has the scope of Communications, Transportation Systems and Vehicular Electronics. IEEE Transaction on Vehicular Technology publishes high-quality technical manuscripts on advances in the state-of-the-art of vehicular technology in the areas of: land, airborne and maritime mobile services; portable commercial and citizen's communications services: vehicular electrotechnology, equipment and systems of the automotive industry; traction power, signals, communications and control systems for mass transit and railroads. Dr. Jayaweera is a Senior Member of IEEE and his research is in the areas of wireless communications, statistical signal processing, cognitive and cooperative communications, networked-control systems and smart-grid technology. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers including more than 30 journal papers and 3 best paper awards all in IEEE conferences.

A senior design team supervised by prof Chris Hall (ME) and Prof. Christos Christodoulou (ECE) have designed, built and launched a helium balloon with a payload of sensors into the ionosphere. A detailed article on this achievement can be found in UNM Today.

PTwo UNM School of Engineering undergraduates recently took a senior design project all the way
to the UNM Technology Business Plan Competition, competing against graduate teams with strong
marketing backgrounds —and won second place.

Prof. Vince Calhoun has been awarded the A. Earl Walker Neuroscience Research Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to basic or clinical research in neuroscience
by a member of the faculty in any UNM department. The award carries a $10,000 monetary award in addition to a certificate and plaque. Congrats Vince!

Prof. Jamesina Simpson has been selected to receive the 2012 Donald G.
Dudley, Jr. Undergraduate Teaching Award of the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Antennas and Propagation
Society (AP-S). This award, established by Mrs. Marge Dudley, honors
an individual who has made outstanding and original contributions to
undergraduate education at the early stage of his/her career as an
educator in the general field of electromagnetics, including theory,
analytical solutions, numerical methods, antennas, propagation,
phenomena visualization, and measurements.
A plaque, $1000 monetary prize, and $500 voucher to SciTech
Publishing, Inc. will be awarded to Prof. Simpson during the 2012 IEEE
AP-S International Symposium banquet to be held this July in Chicago.
