IEEE SMC HAWAII 05
CALL FOR PAPERS
2005 IEEE International Conference on
Systems, Man, and Cybernetics
October 10-12, 2005, The Big Island, Hawaii, USA

IEEE SMC 2005 is dedicated to Professor Andrew P. Sage for his outstanding contributions to systems theory, decision support systems, and for international leadership in systems engineering.

Location:
The 2005 IEEE SMC international conference will be held on the Big Island of Hawaii, USA. The venue is Waikoloa Hilton Village, arguably the best resort hotel in the State of Hawaii. The premises include a monorail system and a boat, by which guests can check into their rooms. The famed Big Island’s active volcano and the continuous arrival of molten lava into the Pacific Ocean at night is a spectacular scene not to be missed.

Theme:
SMC 2005 provides a world-class forum for all aspects of systems engineering, human- machine systems and emerging cybernetics. In recent years, a trend has emerged in which complex systems are being integrated on a large scale with other self-contained systems to satisfy global objectives. Interoperability of resulting systems is enabled through information exchange and increased levels of automation. In light of this trend, the theme for the conference is the emerging discipline of System of Systems Engineering. Papers related to this theme are especially solicited, including theories, methodologies, and applications of intelligent systems in science, technology, security, education, etcetera. Topics covering industrial issues/applications and academic research are encouraged, including, but not limited to:

Systems Modeling & Control
Policy & Decision Support Systems
Intelligent Transportation Systems
Petri Nets & Discrete Event Systems
Image Processing/Pattern Recognition
Multiagent Systems & Distributed AI
Safety Reliability & Quality Assurance

Manufacturing Systems
Systems Engineering Education
Technology Assessment
Internet/Electronic Commerce
Data Mining & Management
Large-Scale Systems
Intelligent Communications

Robotic Systems
Human/Machine Systems
Intelligent Systems
Soft Computing
Fuzzy Logic Systems
Computational Intelligence
Knowledge-Based Systems

Call for Contributed Papers:
Prospective authors are invited to submit their full paper(s) electronically through the conference web site. Papers will be reviewed by up to three referees for technical merit and content. Accepted papers must be presented at the conference by an author to appear in the proceedings. See the guidelines for paper submission.

Call for Special Sessions:
Interested attendees are encouraged to propose special sessions, which consist of five papers that provide a focused discussion of new or innovative topics.  Each proposal must include the session title, description, and organizers. Special session papers will undergo the same intense review process and submission is not a guarantee for acceptance.  Special session papers must be clearly indicated when submitted with a copy sent to the designated special session organizer. Also see the guidelines for special sessions.
